DIY Curtain Rod Makeover Using Drawer Pulls

Hey there! I hope the New Year has treated you well so far! 🙂

I’m in the middle of making over our master bedroom and I wanted to do something spectacular with my boring old curtain rods without either spending a lot of money or replacing them altogether. The curtain rods had the generic ball-tipped ends like the one below:

Curtain Rod Makeover Using Drawer Pulls

There isn’t anything wrong with the ball-tipped curtain rod ends- I still have the one pictured above in my guest bedroom- but I wanted to try something new for our bedroom. What inspired me to do the curtain rod makeover with clear class drawer pulls is they match the drawer pulls that are on my bedroom furniture. I also love being able to repurpose/upcycle stuff any chance I get! 🙂

DIY Curtain Rod Makeover Using Drawer Pulls

 
Here’s what you need:

  • Wood curtain rod
  • 2 screw-in drawer pulls
  • Drill (if the curtain rod ends are not already drilled)
  • Saw (if you are going to cut the ball ends in half like I did, or if you need to cut off whatever is at the ends of the curtain rod if they don’t screw off or otherwise come off easily)

Here’s what you do:

I cut the ball ends in half so I could still use the “cap” part of the ball end to fit over the curtain rod ends. This is completely optional and I only did it this way because I thought it would make my curtain rod ends look more finished. If you can find drawer pulls with the caps like the one pictured above, but big enough to cover the curtain rod ends, you won’t need to do what I did to get a finished look.

Drill a hole in the center of the curtain rod ends (if it isn’t drilled already) and screw in a drawer pull at each end. I glued the ends of the cut ball caps to the curtain rod before screwing in the drawer pulls, but I realized afterwards that I really didn’t need to do this because the drawer pulls will hold the cut ball caps in place. It also makes it a lot easier to get the curtains on the curtain rod without having to work them over the cut ball caps! 🙂

Pull the curtains on the curtain rod if the curtains have a rod pocket (if the rod pocket is small, do this step before you screw on the drawer pulls), hang up your curtains, and enjoy! 🙂

That’s all there is to do this curtain rod makeover! Simple, huh?

    This is great! Found your link over on Made By You Monday. I’m a hoarder of curtain rods from garage sales and thrift stores. I always “plan” to redo them, but never find the time. This is a great way to quickly dress them up!
